All qualifying homes within Omaha’s city limits should have two 96-gallon carts for collection—one for waste (which includes both garbage and yard waste) and the other for recyclables.
When the carts were first delivered, a special edition of Wasteline was included, providing detailed information about the new collection system. It may be helpful to review it. You can access it by clicking here.
FCC Environmental is the city’s current collection contractor, and they will handle collection for the next ten years. FCC was awarded the city’s collection contract in December 2019, and by December 2020, they took over collection services for nearly 150,000 Omaha households.
♦ The cart with the BLACK LID is for garbage and yard waste (together, these are considered waste).
♦ The cart with the GREEN LID is for recyclables (e.g., cans, plastic bottles, clean paper, etc.). For more details, click here.
Each cart is assigned a unique serial number to identify it as yours. Your waste cart will be picked up weekly on your current collection day, while your recycling cart will be collected every other week on the same day.
Automated Collection
Please have your cart(s) out for collection by 6 a.m. on your designated collection day. Place the carts directly at the curb or roadway, ensuring they are at least three feet apart from each other and from any obstacles (such as trees, mailboxes, lamp posts, or parked cars) so the truck’s mechanism can reach each cart. The cart handle should face your house.
Thank you for your cooperation! Together, we can make Omaha a cleaner, greener city for everyone to enjoy.
Cart Management

Carts are owned by the City of Omaha and are provided on loan to residents. FCC Environmental is responsible for cart deliveries, repairs, and general management.
Repairs or replacements needed due to normal wear and tear are covered by the City and the cart manufacturer’s warranty.
However, if a cart is damaged due to resident negligence, the resident will be responsible for the cost of repair or replacement and will be invoiced by the City.
To report repairs or replacement needs, please call 402-444-5238.
